I really liked the story Roadside America in Reading Advantage Adaption Magazine. It reminded me of childhood vacations and vacations with my husband and children.

In response to Mrs. Smith’s prompt recalling what we remember about WWII, I think of things like the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the United States joined the allied forces in the greatest fight on Earth, WWII. Everyone became part of the war effort. The country mobilized by rationing everything from sugar and tin foil to gasoline and rubber. Private industries and government switched gears and operated totally for the purpose of war. People flocked to the movie houses to watch news of the battles and to maybe catch a glimpse of a loved one. Americans fought on several fronts. Besides fighting the Japanese, we fought against Nazi Germany. Many of the films showed the horrific treatment of Jews in the concentration camps. Americans bought war bonds in the hope that our troops could put an end to the tyranny.

In response to Roadside America in Reading Advantage, I relate to this story because I love to travel. During my trip to North Carolina we stopped a lot to look at a lot of different landscapes, and a few old restaurants. We also traveled to Michigan to see our relatives; we ate at an old restored restaurant. When we travel we take a lot of batteries, and extra film. I can relate to this because I love to travel.

In response to Sam's blog about the article "Roadside America" from Reading Advantage, I too have traveled to Michigan and North Carolina. My husband and I lived in Flint,Michigan, in the early 1980's. During that time, we made the trip back and forth to Pennsylvania to visit our family. As for North Carolina, I have made many trips through the Blue Ridge Mountains of that state to get to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and also to Fort Bragg, N.C. Two years ago, I enjoyed visiting Wilmington, N.C., a quaint community along the river Cape Fear.

In response to Mrs. Smiths “The Greatest Salesman” I believe that you have to believe in your self to accomplish anything in life. I agree that you need to believe in what you are working with for it to go right. I believe too that you have to believe in the product you’re selling to sell the item.
